Annotation of lecture courses

Courses read by the members of the department:

  1. Mathematical analysis - mathematical analysis standard course for students of the first and second years of mathematics specialty. Part 1.  Part 2.
  2. Mathematical analysis – separate multimedia lectures. Lecture 16. 
  3. Mathematical analysis – mathematical analysis course for students of the first and second years of applied mathematics specialty.
  4. Mathematical analysis – mathematical analysis short course for students of the first year of economic theory specialty.
  5. Measure and integral theory – basic attention in this course is paid to measure construction and Lebesgue integral. Some aspects of measure and integral construction in general case are also viewed.
  6. Function analysis – annual lectures for students of universities’ mathematical faculties, where metrical theories, linear rationed and Euclid spaces, linear functional and operators and their application to the decision of statement equations are stated.
  7. Chances theory and mathematical statistics - annual lectures for students of universities’ mathematical faculties. Main conceptions and facts are firstly entered for discrete case. Expected value is stated as Lebesgue integral, but any preliminary knowledge of Lebesgue integral is not assumed. Course sections: independent tests and Markov chains, Moivre-Laplace and Poisson maximum theorems, casual sizes, productive and characteristic functions, the law of large numbers, central limit theorem, basic concepts of mathematical statistics, statistical estimations, statistical hypotheses verification, confidence intervals, cross-correlation and regression analysis.
  8. Chances theory and mathematical statistics – half-hear course for students of theoretical mechanics specialty.
  9. Chances theory and mathematical statistics – short course for students-psychologies.
  10. Theory of the even approaching of function by polynomials – special course, where Weierstrass theorem and its various generalization, Stone theorem are studied; classic lines and reverse theorems.
  11. Fourier series – along with classic results Fourier series in Hilbert space, convergence and summability problems almost everywhere of Fourier series and trigonometric series utility are examined.
  12. Adding up of numerical series theory – half-year course, where classic methods of Cesaro and Abel’s adding up, regular matrix methods and results, reflecting “force” and “weakness” of these methods, are contained.
  13. Multiple series – half-year special course, where convergence of multiple numeral and sedate series theorem are stated.
  14. Functions with the limited middle vibration – special course, where functions properties with the limited middle oscillation and some near classes are studied.
  15. Functions classes, determined in terms of middle vibrations – special course, where functions middle integral vibration and their properties, function properties, expressed in term of middle vibrations, functions classes, determined through middle vibrations are studied.
  16. Gravimetric estimations for Hardy-Littlewoods maximally operator – special course, where gravimetric estimations for Hardy-Littlewoods maximally operator are considered and properties of types of Makenhaupt, Gering classes, satisfying reverse Gilder inequality are studied.
  17. Financial mathematics bases – special course which acquaint students with simple and complex interests, simplest streams of payment cost, rents basic types, credits repayment, capital investment efficiency and cost of securities evaluation.
  18. Casual processes and their application in insurance and financial mathematics – annual course which consist of two parts: basic theories of random processes (36 hours) and probabilistic models in insurance and stochastic financial mathematics (24 hours).
  19. Life-insurance – half-year course which gives simple and concise summer of main mathematical models and methods that are required for determination of life-span descriptions, valid for one occasion and periodic bonuses, insurance raises, backlogs for different types of insurance and pension charts. Course’s material forms basic theoretical base of insurance business.
  20. Mathematical bases of economic risk – special course which acquaints students with mathematical risks analysis in insurance and stochastic models of prices changing and forming.
  21. Queuing systems – one of the section of the course “Operations analysis”. It requires knowledge of chances theory. The course is oriented on practical issues which can ba described by mathematical methods.
  22. Mathematical methods in biology – course which acquaints students with mathematical concepts and data analyzing popular methods, forms skills in statistic application package.

Mathematical analysis is the basis of mathematics education regardless of the students’ specialization. It can be said that the department has existed as long as the university itself. Although, it had another name at some periods in the past. For example, it was called The Department of Pure Mathematics in 1865, when the university was founded.

From 1975 to 2009 the department was managed by Sc.D. Eleonora A. Storozhenko.

Since 2009 the department has been managed by Sc.D. Anatoliy A. Korenovskiy.

Professors V.O. Andreenko, M.L. Vasilevskiy, V.D. Didenko, V.I. Kolyada, V.G. Krotov (all of them are Odessa University’s graduates of different years) worked at the department at different times. The last four works abroad now. An educational process is now provided by 9 regular lecturers (2012-2013).

Scientific theme of the department

“Methods of the theory of functions in a harmonic analysis and integral operators with a change” (state registration number 0106U001415, a leader of the theme is a professor E.A. Storozhenko, term of implementation of the theme is 2010-2015 years).

A school of the theory of function, which was known not only in Ukraine, but also abroad, was formed at the department of mathematical analysis at the beginning of 90th. An all-union school of the theory of function was organized in 1991 with the help of the department. It was attended by more than 150 mathematicians from different countries and CIS cities. Scientific traditions are presently supported and developed.

Scientific activity of the department stuff is connected with the following directions:

  1. Integral inequalities for algebraic polynomials on a single circumference;
  2. Properties of functions determined in terms of relatively local descriptions;
  3. Investment theorems;
  4. Approximate properties of different middle multiple orthogonal series;
  5. Regional problems of theory of analytical functions;
  6. Researches on the theory of operators.

A scientific seminar works on this subject (a leader is Professor E.A. Storozhenko).

The most significant results are represented in works shown in the list of publications of the members of the department.

The results of these works are used in different academic institutions and universities of Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine – in the Institute of Mathematics of the National Academy of Science of Ukraine. The results are used for future researches, development of new and introduction of the existing special courses, representation of new themes of course and diploma papers, scientific activity of students which are the base for future diploma works in Dnepropetrovsk, Donetsk, Kiev, Lvov, Odessa universities. 7 different awards have been received, 137 scientific works have been published, 34 scientific reports have been made and 5 train aids have been given out during the last scientific theme implementation period.

Lecturers, postgraduates and students of the department were awarded numerous prizes of different degrees for the results of their scientific works. For example, Professor V.A. Andrienko and A.A. Korenovskiy were awarded diplomas of Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine and diploma of Odessa National University. Senior lecturer N.A. Rozhenko got the bonus of trade union Ƶ its 145 anniversary. Student O. Shlepakov got the first prize at the Ukrainian competition of students’ works for his master’s degree work “About exact continuation of functions classes which satisfy reverse Holder’s inequality”. Student V.V. Fomichov came 3rd in Ukrainian-Swiss competition of students’ works for his bachelor work.

The name of the scientific project (2001-2009) that was made by the members of the department is “Optimization of inequalities in a harmonic analysis and in the approximation theory” under the contract with MES of Ukraine F7/329-2001.

The department always keeps in touch with graduates, postgraduates and former employees who presently work in other cities and abroad. For example, an employee of well-known firm Bell Labs Lucent Technologies (USA) professor P. Oswald came to Odessa University in February, 2004. He graduated from the Odessa University in 1975, completed postgraduate in 1978, defended a candidate’s dissertation in 1978. The lection “N-member capacity approximation on spatial lattices” by Oswald collected a large audience of IMEM stuff.

Professor Victor I. Kolyada (Sweden) presented the lection “Transplantation theorems for ultraspherical polynomials” in December, 2004. V.I. Kolyada studied at the Odessa University, and then he worked at the department of mathematical analysis for more than 25 years. V.I. Kolyada’s new results deserve extremely high score. Former employees of the department V.G. Krotov (Minsk, Byelorussia), Y.V. Kryakin (Wroclaw, Poland), A.M. Stokolos (Chicago, USA) have taken part and delivered reports at the seminars on function theories in recent years.

The department of mathematical support of computer systems was created in 2000 on the basis of the mathematical support section of the computational mathematics department.

Since 2013, the department has been headed by ScD (Tech.), Full Professor Eugene Malakhov.

Currently, 10 full-time employees work at the department.

Among them: 1 Professor, 5 Associate Professors, 4 Senior Lecturers.

The department is a graduate school for the "Computer Engineering" and "Information Systems and Technologies" majors, and also provides a number of disciplines of the information technology cycle for students majoring in the Faculty of Mathematics, Physics, and Information Technologies.
