The Department of Cultural Studies was established at the Faculty of Philosophy of I. I. Mechnikov Odessa National University on July 1st 2002. During the early years the Department prepared new fundamental and professionally oriented courses: "History of foreign culture", "Culture of the 20th century", "Philosophy of Culture", "History of Foreign Literature", "History of Fine Arts", "History of Music", "History of Theatre", "History of Cinema", "Culture of regions", "Culturological Anthropology", as well as special courses: "Typology and Chronology of Culture", "Culture and the Law", "Management in the non-manufacturing sector", "Entrepreneurship and Show business", "Organization and Methods of Show projects", "Organization and Methods of Advertising campaigns", "Organization and Methods of Presentation", "Fundamentals of direction Theatrical forms of Leisure", "Fundamentals of Dramatics", "Fundamentals of scenic Speech", "The organization of cultural Projects", "Lvov-Warsaw philosophical School", "History of Ukrainian Culture" and others.

In recent years the Department improved fundamentals and professionally oriented courses, as well as prepared new courses: "The Culture of the Silver Age", "Philosophy and Literature", "Methodology and stylistics of the Humanities", "Symbol and Myth in the cinematic Art of the 20th century", "The organization and methods of Advertising campaigns", "Methodology of Postmodern", "Science in the system of Cultural Studies" and others.

The Department provides reading of the relevant courses at the Philosophy faculty and Cultural Studies at all faculties and in the institutes of Ƶ future bachelors and masters.

In addition to theoretical knowledge, the students, specializing in Cultural Studies, have the opportunity to apply and test their knowledge in practice. Three types of practices are carried out: familiarization practice, which takes place in Kiev and Odessa; museum practice, which is carried out on the basis of the museums of Odessa; pedagogical practice, which is carried out on the basis of secondary schools in Odessa. The Department of Cultural Studies has entered into cooperation agreements with all Cultural centres of Odessa (Centre of Ukrainian Culture, Russian Culture Centre, Bavaria House, Arab Cultural Centre, Centre of Jewish Culture, Centre of Hellenic Culture, Centre of Rehabilitation), as well as with the creative Unions (the Union of Theatre Workers, the Union of Writers, the Union of Journalists) and with all Theatres of Odessa.

Speciality "Cultural Studies" is accredited on the R&D "Bachelor", "Specialist" and "Master".

The Department has postgraduate studies in the speciality 09.00.04 – "Philosophical Anthropology, Philosophy of Culture" and 26.00.01 – "Theory and History of Culture".

Lecturers of the Department are actively involved in the implementation of the Faculty Research Complex Topic "Investigation of the processes of integration and differentiation in modern scientific and philosophical knowledge" (date of the performance: 01.01.2017 – 31.12.2021). The Scientific Supervisor of the Research is Head of the Department, Dean of the Faculty of Philosophy, Associate Professor Chaikovskiy A.V.; Principal investigator is Professor Golubovich I. V.

Research activities of the Department are carried out in accordance with the scientific profile. Main directions of scientific researches:

The Faculty scientific staff participation in international events:

Under M. N. Vernikov’s leadership the Department established scientific ties with foreign scientific institutions, and in particular with the Institute of Philosophy of the University of Rzeszów (Poland). The Department is actively involved in preparation and holding International scientific philosophical and cultural conferences, among which the most important and fruitful were: International Conference "Philosophical and cultural thought in Ukraine in the context of contemporary global socio-cultural process" (June 24-25, Odessa and July 1-2, 2004 in Lviv); "Stepan Baley and problems of formation of modern culture of education. Philosophy, Cultural Studies, Psychology, Pedagogy", Odessa – Lviv, 2005; International Conference of Philosophers of Slavic countries "Philosophy in the Culture of the Slavs" (2-5 June 2007, Poland, Rzeszów).

In recent years the Department has been actively involved in preparation and holding international scientific philosophical and cultural conferences on essence of the phenomenon of laughter and issues of laughter culture (the 11th and 12th International scientific conferences "About Nature of Laughter" (Odessa, 2014, 2016, April), as well as International scientific conferences on issues of the methodology of the Humanities, interdisciplinary and transdisciplinary researches (International Scientific Conference "Humanitarian Discourse: Disciplinarity, interdisciplinarity, transdisciplinarity" (Odessa, 2015, June).

The Lecturers of the Department participate in international congresses and scientific conferences of near and far abroad. Professor L.N. Bogataya spoke at the conference «Civilisation at the Crossroads. Response and Responsibility of the Systems Sciences» (Vienna, 22-25 April 2014). Associate professor V.L. Levchenko made reports at the international congresses and conferences on topical issues of the present (II and III International Geological Congress "The History of the Study of Laughter in Russia and the USSR: Scientific Schools and Selected Researchers" (St. Petersburg, 2014) and "The Science of Laughter: Methodology and Terminology" (St. Petersburg, 2015), International Scientific Conference "Laughter in Religious Culture" within the framework of the International Scientific Forum "Humanitarian Readings of the RSUH-2016" (Moscow, 2016, April), International Scientific Conference "Event. War. Society: (Social-Philosophical Analytics)» within the framework of the Congress of Researchers of Belarus (Kaunas, 2016, November). Associate Professor E.K. Sobolevskaya made a report at the XVI International Scientific-Practical Conference Voloshin Readings: "The Questioner of the Century ..." (May 23 - 29, 2011, Koktebel, Crimea), acted and was one of the organizers of the International Scientific-Practical Conference: "The Universe of Freedom and Love" (May 13 - 19, 2013, Koktebel, Crimea), headed the section "The worldview in the Culture of the Silver Age: symbols and archetypes, realities and creative reflections" and Scientific-Practical seminar for students and graduate students "Maximilian Voloshin and Culture of the Silver Age".

Since 2003 the Department of Cultural Studies has been preparing postgraduate students by speciality "Theory and History of Culture", "Philosophical Anthropology, Philosophy of Culture".

History of the Department:

The Department of Cultural Studies was established at the Faculty of Philosophy of I. I. Mechnikov Odessa National University on July 1st 2002. In October 2002 the Head of the Department was elected Doctor of Philosophy, Professor, Academician of the Ukrainian Academy of Political Sciences, Merited Figure of Science and Technology of Ukraine, Director of the Institute of Philosophy, Logic and Sociology of Lviv Philosophical Union Vernikov Marat Nikolayevich. In 2006 I. I. Mechnikov Odessa National University received a license from the Ministry of education and science of Ukraine to the Training of specialists in 7.02010101 "Cultural Studies". A year later, in 2007, on the initiative of M. N. Vernikov, the lecturers of the Faculty and the Department of Cultural Studies, Postgraduate studies were opened in the speciality 09.00.04 – "Philosophical Anthropology, Philosophy of Culture" and 26.00.01 – "Theory and History of Culture". After M. N. Vernikov, in 2011, the Department was headed by High Achiever of the Education of Ukraine, Doctor of Fine Arts, Professor A. P. Ovchinnikova. Under her guidance the work continued in all these directions. Besides Ph.D. in Philosophy, Associate Professor, Deputy Dean for the Department Cultural Studies K. V. Ushakova prepared documents for the licensing of the MA course in the speciality 8.02010101 "Cultural Studies". In January 2014 the accreditation of the MA course successfully passed. In February 2014 the first master-cultural students received their diplomas.

Currentely, since September 2013, the Department has been headed by Doctor of Philosophy, Ph.D. in Philology, Associate Professor E. K. Sobolevskaya. She conducts the active scientific, methodical and educational work. The sphere of her scientific interests is the problems of Theory and Philosophy of Culture, Philosophy of Culture of the Silver Age, Poetry and Philosophy, Philosophy of Language. Sobolevskaya E. K. has more than 60 scientific papers, including outside of Ukraine.

    Our department offers graduation in two specialties

    071 "Accounting and taxation" and

    072 "Finance, banking and insurance" and ensures the educational process in all specialties of the faculty.

    Specialty 071 "Accounting and taxation"

    • In 2008, the Department of Accounting, Analysis and Auditing was created for the preparation of specialists in the "Accounting and Audit" specialty at the Faculty of Economics and Law within the framework of the "Bachelor" and "Specialist" educational qualification levels.
    • Since 2016, the department has been training students of higher education at the first (bachelor's) and second (master's) levels in specialty 071 "Accounting and taxation" (field of knowledge 07 "Management and administration").
    • In 2018, the department of accounting, analysis and audit was renamed to the department of accounting and taxation.
    • From 2008 to 2010, the head of the department was Doctor of Economic Sciences, Professor Kucherenko Viktor Romanovych.
    • Since 2010, the department has been headed by a candidate of economic sciences, associate professor, Ph.D. (economy) Nataliya Lvivna Kusyk.

    The leading teachers of the department are practicing accountants, auditors and tax consultants, valid and associate members of the Federation of Professional Accountants and Auditors of Ukraine, the All-Ukrainian professional public organization "Union of Auditors of Ukraine", the All-Ukrainian professional public organization "Union of Tax Consultants of Ukraine".

    Leading teachers of the department have certificates of methodologists of information programs "1-C Accounting for Ukraine", "Sailing - Accounting", "M.e.doc - My electronic document".

    The leading teachers of the department constantly improve their qualifications and undergo international internships: Czech Republic (Prague), Prague Institute for Qualification Enhancement (Prague Institute for Qualification Enhancement, Czech Republic, Prague); Estonia (Tallinn), Tallinn School of Economics and Business Administration of Tallinn University of Technology (Tallinn School of Economics and Business Administration Tallinn University of Technology, Estonia, Tallinn); Iasi University named after A.Y. Cuza (Universitatea Alexandru Ioan Cuza din Iasi, Jean Monnet Chair in European Political Economy); Stefan cel Mare University of Suceava (Universitatea Stefan cel Mare din Suceava); Center for European Reforms Studies of the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg (Sentre for European Reforms Studies, Grand Duchy of Luxembourg).

    The department cooperates with the Audit Chamber of Ukraine, the Territorial branch of the All-Ukrainian professional public organization "Union of Auditors of Ukraine" in the Odesa region, the All-Ukrainian professional public organization "Union of Tax Consultants of Ukraine" (Southern District), the All-Ukrainian professional accounting newspaper "All About Accounting", an international network independent auditing firms - KPMG, the Ukrainian Association for the Development of Management and Business Education, leading professional accounting, auditing, consulting companies of the Southern region of Ukraine.

    Cooperation involves the participation of teachers and students in free educational programs, international competitions for solving business cases, competitions from partner companies, obtaining certificates, getting to know business representatives, establishing business relations with future employers, completing internships, training, and professional development.

    Specialty 072 "Finance, banking and insurance"

    Training of financiers at Odesa National University named after I.I. Mechnikov. was started in 2005 on the basis of the Department of Economics and Modeling of Market Relations at the Institute of Postgraduate Education of I.I. Mechnikov Odesa State University. (2001, January - by order of the rector of the I.I. Mechnikov OSU No. 04a-02) with the assistance of the professor, head of the department Zhuravlyova T.O. After obtaining a license for the bachelor's degree program in the fields of "Finance" and "Banking" in accordance with the Resolution of the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine dated 13.12.2006 No. 1719 "On the list of areas in which specialists are trained in higher educational institutions at the educational and qualification level of a bachelor ", they were transformed into the direction of preparation 6.030508 "Finance and credit". In 2014, the direction of training for the bachelor's degree program 6.030508 "Finance and credit" was re-accredited. For the purpose of licensing, in accordance with the resolution of the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine No. 1187 dated 30.12.2015 "On the approval of the Licensing conditions for conducting educational activities of educational institutions", the educational and professional program "Finance, banking and insurance" was developed as a specialty, approved by the Academic Council of Odessa National University named after I.I. Mechnikov (minutes dated 29.03.2016, No. 7).

    In 2016, a license was obtained for the second (master's) level of higher education in specialty 072 "Finance, banking and insurance" (meeting of the licensing commission of the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine, protocol of 19.07.2016 No. 12/1; order of the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine dated 07.21.2016 No. 1407-L "On Licensing of Educational Activities", and in 2017 the educational and professional program in specialty 072 "Finance, Banking and Insurance" at the second (master's) level of higher education was accredited.

    Preparation of bachelor's and master's level higher education students studying under the educational and professional program Finance, banking and insurance in specialty 072 "Finance, banking and insurance" field of knowledge 07 "Management and administration" at ONU named after I.I. Mechnikov. carried out in accordance with the Law of Ukraine "On Higher Education", the National Strategy for the Development of Education in Ukraine for 2022-2023, the "National Doctrine for the Development of Education in the 21st Century", the Strategic Priorities of the Development of the Odessa National University named after I.I. Mechnikov for the years 2020-2025, as well as taking into account the changes taking place in Ukraine at the current stage of development in the aspect of reformatting the content and directions of personal development in the conditions of the transition of society to a new technological system and bringing the content and structure of higher education of Ukraine closer to European and world standards .

    The training of bachelor's and master's degree holders of the educational and professional program "Finance, banking and insurance" in the specialty 072 "Finance, banking and insurance" was carried out at the department of finance, banking and insurance, which was created as a result of the reorganization in 2018 year and was the legal successor of the Department of Economics and Modeling of Market Relations and the graduation department for this specialty.

    Training of financiers at Odesa National University named after I.I. Mechnikov. was started in 2005 on the basis of the Department of Economics and Modeling of Market Relations at the Institute of Postgraduate Education of I.I. Mechnikov Odesa State University. (2001, January - by order of the rector of the I.I. Mechnikov OSU No. 04a-02) with the assistance of the professor, head of the department Zhuravlyova T.O. Mechnikov for the years 2020-2025, as well as taking into account the changes taking place in Ukraine at the current stage of development in the aspect of reformatting the content and directions of personal development in the conditions of the transition of society to a new technological system and bringing the content and structure of higher education of Ukraine closer to European and world standards .

    The training of bachelor's and master's degree holders of the educational and professional program "Finance, banking and insurance" in the specialty 072 "Finance, banking and insurance" was carried out at the department of finance, banking and insurance, which was created as a result of the reorganization in 2018 year and was the legal successor of the department of economics and modeling of market relations and the graduation department in this specialty. In 2021, the Department of Finance, Banking and Insurance celebrated the 20th anniversary of its inspired work!

    In 2022, the department was reorganized by merging with the Department of Accounting and Taxation, and the Department of Accounting and Finance was created, which is a graduate in two specialties 071,072.

    The competitive advantage of the master's program is its focus on an exclusively individual approach to students in the process of specific training in solving situational problems; execution of an individual research task (project), the results of which are prepared to publish theses of scientific reports or articles in specialized publications.

The Department of Practical and Clinical Psychology was founded on September 1, 2020, by combining two departments: the Department of Clinical Psychology and the Department of Social Assistance and Practical Psychology.

In April 1999, by order of the rector of the I.I. Mechnikov OGU No. 15-02, the Department of Clinical Psychology was created at the Institute of Postgraduate Education.

Under the leadership of professor, Ph.D. Boris G. Khersonsky, the department immediately became a center for the dissemination of psychological knowledge among student youth. Both experienced lecturers of the domestic generation and young and initiative personnel of psychologists collaborated at the department: Doctor of Medical Sciences, Professor V.A. During its existence, the department has become one of the leading centers for scientific research in various fields of psychology. Specialists were trained in specializations: "Management Psychology and Organizational Counseling," "Legal and Extreme Psychology," "Clinical Psychology."

Since 2003, a correspondence and inpatient graduate school in the specialty "Special Psychology" was opened on the basis of the department, and in 2006 in such areas as: 19.00.04 - "Medical Psychology" and 19.00.01 - "General Psychology, History of Psychology," which indicates a further improvement in the quality of education in the domestic education system ONU.

In 2006, laboratories were created at the Institute of Innovation and Postgraduate Education on the basis of the Department of Clinical Psychology:

Since 2008, the department began work on advanced training courses for psychologists, doctors and medical workers with higher education and secondary special education in the areas of: "Psychocorrection and psychotherapy," "Clinical psychodiagnostics," "Suicidology," "Psychosomatic disorders and their psychological correction," "Psychological problems of the neurotic patient and their correction."

In 2016, as a result of the reorganization, M. Kirilishina was elected head of the department.

The Department of Social Assistance and Practical Psychology was established at the Institute of Innovative and Postgraduate Education on September 1, 2013 to provide training for specialists in the specialty "Psychology" (specialization - management psychology and organizational advice). Forms of training: full-time, correspondence and retraining of specialists with obtaining a second higher education with the provision of appropriate qualifications. The head of the department was elected Doctor of Biological Sciences, Professor E. M. Psyadlo.

Compatible with the Department of Clinical Psychology, employees of the Department of Social Assistance and Practical Psychology were developing research work on the topic "Systemic-forming factors of personality well-being in psychosocial stress." The customer was MES of Ukraine.

Since 2016, a correspondence and stationary graduate school in the direction of 19.00.05 - "Social psychology and psychology of social work" was opened on the basis of the department.

Since 01.01.2018, the departments of clinical psychology and social assistance and practical psychology have become part of the newly created faculty of psychology and social work of ONU named after I.I. Mechnikov. In 2020, the departments were merged and the Department of Practical and Clinical Psychology was created, at which applicants for higher education from the field of knowledge are trained 05 Social and behavioral sciences, specialty, 053 Psychology, at the first, second and third levels of higher education.

The department provides postgraduate studies in specialty 053 - Psychology.

The research activities of the Department of Practical and Clinical Psychology are carried out within the framework of priority areas of scientific research of ONU, current areas of psychology, modern technologies and types of activities of practical psychology.

The history of the development of psychological science at Odessa National University begins in 1896, when MM Lange, who belonged to the constellation of scientists at Novorossiysk University, opened the first laboratory of experimental psychology in Ukraine, separated from the departments of psychiatry, physiology, and philosophy. A worthy guardian and successor of historical traditions in science, coming from IM Sechenova, II Mechnikov, AO Kovalevsky, NN Lange became David Henrikhovich Elkin (1895 - 1983). Brilliant researcher - experimenter DG Elkin spent many years of his life studying the psychological mechanisms of memory, attention, perception, and the formation of skills. But the most significant contribution to the development of psychological science was made by DG Elkin's fundamental research on the perception of time. It is the work of DG Elkin actually turned the Department of Pedagogy into the Department of Pedagogy and Psychology, which was designed, taking into account the wartime, only in 1945, and in 1960 the Department of Psychology became independent. D.G. Elkin headed the department until 1975, and then - Associate Professor TM Goat. In 1987, on the initiative of Professor, Doctor of Psychological Sciences IG Bilyavsky, the Department of General and Social Psychology was established. In 2011, the ONU was reorganized and today the department is called General Psychology and Psychology of Personality Development, its head - Doctor of Psychology, Professor ZO Kireeva. The department conducts fundamental research on topical issues of social sciences and humanities on the topic: "Dynamics of personality development in the temporal development of life." One of the priority scientific directions is the study of time, which was started by DG Elkin and continued by his students, in particular Professor BY Tsukanov, who built a holistic concept of psychological time based on the experimental measurement of its unit "τ (tau) -type". , which does not change during life and has individual limits: 0.7s <<1.1s. Scientific and professional interests: continuer of the traditions of the scientific school "Psychology of time" D. Elkin - B. Tsukanov, I study the representation of time, adaptation of τ-types, time perspective, life path planning, purpose, meaning, particularities of going through difficult life situations, resilience, human resources.
I provide psychological assistance counseling in the field of age-related, family psychology on issues of spouses (pre-marital counseling, jealousy, betrayal, pre- and post-divorce situations) and child-parent relations, individually counseling adults with depressive tendencies.
13 graduate students and independant aspirants have defended their dissertations under my supervision.
